Hotel Technology: Good Life Review

Recently, my husband and I spent the night at an independently owned inn.  When we arrived, the host told us about the amenities, which included an iPad in our room.  Although the intent of our trip wasn’t to spend time in our room surfing the Internet, it was useful for finding a breakfast restaurant, checking the weather, and more.  With this in mind, I decided to search for hotels that offered other forms of technology to their guests.  It’s a pretty interesting list.

• Gansevoort Hotel Group is offering guests free use of theReader Digital Book by Sony during their stay. For perfect poolside reading at Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC andGansevoort Turks & Caicos, guests can borrow the Reader and get a first look at New York Times bestsellers or choose from a half a million public domain Google Books including The Great Gatsby and Catcher in the Rye. The Readers are available to guests on a first-come, first-serve basis at the concierge desk at Gansevoort Meatpacking and Gansevoort Turks
• The Phoenix resort on Ambergris Caye, Belize, provides guests a few unique tech amenities at no charge.  Specifically, the resort has iPads, Kindles and Wiis for guests to use while they vacation at the resort. Guests can notify the resort staff prior to their arrival if they’d like something specific downloaded on the iPad or Kindle.
• The Reefs in Bermuda offers complimentary Flip digital video cameras for guests to capture their vacation memories. The videos can be transferred via USB to a guest’s laptop or burned to a keepsake disc.  Nisbet Plantation, on the Caribbean island of Nevis, also offers complimentary Flip digital video cameras for guests. In addition, Nisbet Plantation has complimentary Hiker GPS units for guests to take along on walks and hikes through the island’s lush rainforests or to the top of Nevis Peak.

When you’re choosing a hotel for your next vacation, don’t forget to see what technology options are offered.  It’s not just a great view or fabulous breakfast buffet that can make your stay memorable.
